The Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, 2017 provides that the entitlement to family medical leave is increased from 8 weeks in a 26-week period to up to twenty-seven weeks in a 52-week period.  This leave is unpaid.

It is important that Employers not suffer from collective amnesia when a worker exercises her right to family medical leave. The worker has a right to return from such leave to the same or similar position she had when she left.  She should not be adversely affected as a result of her having taken leave.
